The Houston Texans travel to MetLife Stadium on Monday night to take on the New York Jets. Most have already chalked this game up as a win for the away team, but stranger things have happened early on in this 2012 season. The Texans possess the league’s best defense in terms of yards allowed at 273 per game and points allowed at 14 per contest. The offense is pretty good too, averaging 370.3 yards and 31.5 points per game. Houston has been on the rise for years now. But this season seems different, as the team will be trying to go 5-0 to join the Atlanta Falcons as the only other undefeated team remaining in the league. Despite their 2-2 record, the Jets are reeling after last week’s 34-0 loss at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. The bad news for New York is that Monday’s game sort of has that same feeling of a blowout loss. The Jets are hobbled and lacking when it comes to having playmakers and a team identity—a pitiable combination for not only this week’s game, but the rest of the season. Here is one bold prediction for each team in Monday night’s matchup: Arian Foster is one of the premier running backs in the NFL, and the Texans do an amazing job of leaning on him on offense. He leads the league in rushes with 103, is tied for the lead in rushing touchdowns with four and his 380 yards are good for fourth. The Jets defense is ranked 31st against the run, allowing 172.8 yards per game. Opposing offenses have also scored seven rushing touchdowns on the team, which is last in the league in that category. With fellow running back Ben Tate questionable for the game, Foster will have plenty of chances against a putrid Jets defense. Whether or not Tate plays, look for the Texans to lean on the ground game to control the clock and neutralize the crowd. The formula is simple: The Jets are coming off an uninspiring performance in last week’s loss. Their offense has struggled against terrific defenses. The Texans have the best defense in the league. Shutouts in the NFL are rare enough, but back-to-back shutout losses at home just don’t happen. Since the merger, only the 1977 Tampa Bay Buccaneers have accomplished the feat by losing to the Falcons and Chicago Bears in Weeks 11 and 12 at Tampa Stadium that season. Quarterback Mark Sanchez is struggling, the defense isn’t what it used to be and head coach Rex Ryan is on the verge of losing the team for good. The poised Texans should be able to handle the Jets without difficulty. (Source: bleacherreport.com)
